Penal Substitutionary Atonement

Basically, Christ being substituted to fulfill the legal requirement of God’s wrath on sin.

It seems simple enough but this truth hurts feelings. This is extremely offensive to both those who profess to be Christians and those who are non-Christian. No one wants to believe that they deserve the eternal wrath of God for sin. All religions will point to a person living a good life as adequate. God does not grade on a curve and He would not be a good Judge if the price for sin was not paid–whether on the Cross for those who trust in it, or in Hell.

The Cross is Offensive to the very core. we have dumbed down how harsh a message it portrays. If we were to slaughter anyone deserving in the same way today we would be tried for being inhumane! Thank you God for having the mercy to save me from what I deserve!

I know it is Simon. God agrees with you:

“Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, IN THE WISDOM OF GOD, THE WORLD DID NOT KNOW GOD THROUGH WISDOM, IT PLEASED GOD THROUGH THE FOLLY OF WHAT WE PREACH TO SAVE THOSE WHO BELIEVE.”
    -1 Corinthians 1:20

    Yep, I’m feelin’ the love. Let’s e-hug.
